iPhone 4 Repairs of Antenna Defect By Apple:
Apple Sued, Pays Out Settlement To Customers
Amongst numerous lawsuits filed against them by consumers, Apple has managed to settle one of the many.
Almost 2 years after being sued for the iPhone 4’s reception issues, customers will finally be getting a little compensation for their efforts.
Apple’s settlement obliged them to pay $15 or a free case to anyone in the U.S who purchased the iPhone 4 in order to combat the effects of the defect.
Apple’s 2010 release of the iPhone 4 was hugely successful, with the iPhone model being significantly redesigned to be thinner and sleeker looking.
Soon after release however issues with the phone were widespread, with many purchasers complaining of their new device dropping calls at random.
The problem was found to lie with the phones antenna, which was wrapped around the phones edge to formulate the newly thin design. This antenna band combined with users holding the phone in a certain place caused reception to falter.
The lead attorney in the case said that over 21 million iPhone 4 users were entitled to a payout, despite Apple initially ignoring the complaints.
Once Apple were forced to address the issue, they dismissed customer complaints and then called a press conference.
Instead of iPhone 4 repairs of the issue, Apple has instead offered a free case to any iPhone 4 users in the United States.
CEO Steve Jobs addressed the issue personally, publicly announcing the offer of free cases, which were supposed to combat the issue. He also claimed that the problem occurred with other company’s phones as well.
Protective cases have been shown to eradicate or reduce the issue, and Rothken has said he considers the settlement to be reasonable.
Apple does not offer a solution to those owners who would prefer not to use a case, possibly costing them the price of iPhone 4 repairs.
