Iphone 5c Repair Rated By iFixt
iFixit evaluate iPhone 5s and 5c for reparability
iFixit have been busy doing what they do best – taking apart expensive tech gadgets to evaluate how easy they are to repair.
This time, they dismantled Apples latest iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, and the results were as disappointing as previous Apple products.
iFixit found that both the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c were much more difficult to repair than their predecessor, the original iPhone 5.
iPhone 5s Repair
They found that the new fingerprint scanner on the iPhone 5s made the repair more difficult, as well as more dangerous. They blamed the cable that connected the sensor to the Lightening port, which could get damaged easily during repair.
They also noted that the TouchID’s sapphire sensor could be susceptible to degrading over time.
iPhone 5c Repair
iFixit found that an iPhone 5c repair would be just as difficult as with the iPhone 5c.
They found both models to be designed in a way that made battery and screen removal very difficult. The battery on both phones is superglued to the phones internals, and doesn’t have the removal pull tab that was in older models. This makes it challenging to remove, and much trickier than with past iPhone designs.
The screen was found to be just as tricky, with the front glass, digitizer and LCD panel being all fitted in with each other as one component.
This will drive up the difficulty and cost of both the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c repair, with cracked screens meaning replacement of the digitizer and LCD panel as well as the screen glass.
Both models were also found to have pentalobe screws and an antenna that was hard to disassemble.
iFixit’s overall rating of reparability for both iPhone 5s and 5c
Overall, iFixit rated the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c repair to be six out of ten, which isn’t too shabby.
Despite its okay-ish rating, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c repair will be a lot more expensive than iPhone 5 repairs which scored seven out of ten reparability. They were also beaten by the Samsung Galaxy S4 which scored eight out of ten.
