Cheap iPhone Repairs Or AppleCare +?
Is Apple’s extended warranty worth the extra $99?
We research whether or not AppleCare + is the best bet for your buy
Apple has come under fire in recent years, with accusations from independent repair services of making their devices notoriously hard to repair.
The difficulty of Apple device repair drives up the time and cost it takes for independent repair specialists to fix Apple devices, which causes customers to turn to Apple for their repairs instead.
It seems as though Apple is going to lengths to be the only repair services to offer cheap iPhone repairs, with all their efforts ensuring them to be the cheapest repair on the market.
Their AppleCare + is of course a prime example of this – and an ingenious marketing strategy to boot. Every Apple device comes with a one year warranty – but this warranty only covers internal defects and faults. That means that if you accidentally break your iPhone – as so many of us do – you can not get this fixed for free, despite the one year warranty.
Is AppleCare + A Viable Purchase?
Apple does offer a solution to the high price of Apple repairs – but at an added cost, of course. Purchasing AppleCare + for $99 promises the consumer two cheap iPhone repairs within two years of purchase.
And when we say cheap we mean cheap – AppleCare + offers cheap iPhone repairs at a reasonable $79, and this covers all and any kinds of repairs. This is of course in addition to the initial $99 AppleCare + purchase fee. So you do run the risk of losing that $99 if you manage to keep your iPhone in tip top condition for the two years after purchase.
Forgo AppleCare + however, and you could possibly find yourself looking at paying a sizeable sum for your repair, depending on the damage done. Costs of repairs are usually always less than replacing the iPhone – but that doesn’t make them cheap.
And if you’ve ever owned an iPhone before, you probably know from firsthand experience that the odds of it remaining damage free for two years is pretty slim. One third of iPhone owners were shown to break their devices every year according to a survey done by gadget warranty company SquareTrade. Those odds aren’t great – especially considering the high cost of iPhone repairs.
However, there are some other ways you can find cheap iPhone repairs. Read on to the next page to find out how.
